Movement should feel empowering, not punishing.
About me.
I’m passionate about giving people the tools and resources they need to lead healthier and happier lives.
I took my first Pilates class in 2005 and was hooked. Pilates was the first movement system that left me feeling strong, energetic and pain free. In my early 40s, an autoimmune disease diagnosis sent me on a deeper quest for wellness and certification training in Pilates.
I love sharing my knowledge and passion for Pilates with people of all backgrounds: avid cyclists and runners, outdoors enthusiasts, seniors, dancers, working moms and dads, and movement newbies.
I was born and raised in Rapid City. After moving away for college, I worked as a marketing and communications professional on the East and West coasts before opening a Pilates studio in Oregon in 2014. The pandemic inspired big changes and brought me, my husband and pup home. When I’m not in the studio, I’m usually out enjoying nature, studying Italian or reading a good book.
EDUCATION
I’m comprehensively trained through Peak Pilates, a teacher training program in the classical Pilates method.
I also graduated from the Heritage Training Program, a post-graduate program for Pilates professionals, under the tutelage of the world-renowned Pilates teacher Cara Reeser.
Biomechanics and Pilates
Over the years, I have continued my education with Reeser and physical therapist Jeremy Laverdure through their comprehensive education program called Movement Science Made Simple. Through their coursework, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of how the body — shoulders, the low back, hips, legs and muscles — functions in Pilates exercises and how to make smarter exercise choices for clients based on their unique needs.
Pilates for Neurological Conditions
In 2018, I completed Pilates-based training with leading expert Meghann Koppele in neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, stroke and traumatic brain injury.
Chronic Pain
In 2019, I completed a research-based workshop with Greg Lehman, leading expert in the field of physical therapy, exploring the biopyschosocial model to address and manage pain.
Women’s Pelvic Floor Health
In 2021 I completed a workshop on the Female Pelvic Floor and Movement with MD, OB/GYN Dr. Leasa Lowy and Rachel Lundberg E-RYT 500, YACEP.
Shoulder Workshop
In 2021 I completed Hands, Wrists, Shoulders: Preparation for Weight Bearing, taught by Julie Gudmestad, physical therapist and Master Yoga Instructor.
Breathing Workshop
In 2022 I completed a workshop exploring how the abdominals, diaphragm, and pelvic floor work together in breathing, and as movers and stabilizers of the lumbar spine and pelvis in your Pilates practice.
Osteoporosis Workshop
In 2024 I completed a workshop learning about safe movement for people with osteopenia and osteoporosis and strategies for increasing bone density.
Somatic Meditation (Meditation through the body)
I have been practicing a variety of meditation methods for more than 10 years as a way to relieve stress and address chronic pain. I began a serious practice in the art of somatic (or embodied) meditation in 2016. Unlike many traditional forms of meditation that focus primarily on clearing the mind, somatic meditation works throughout the entire body providing the opportunity to discover and unlock tension, stress and discomfort.
Through this method, people learn tools for feeling more grounded and for calming the central nervous system during bouts of chronic pain and stressful life events.
“Jodi is an amazing instructor with terrific teaching skills. Her calmness and approach are refreshing...and she is so flexible with the physical limits of her clients. So very lucky to have her and her studio in my life.”
